What Celtic target Ange Postecoglou said when linked with Rangers as Ibrox dismissal resurfaces

Celtic are in advanced talks to make Ange Postecglou their new manager - but it's not the first time he's been linked with a move to Scotland.

The 55-year-old was linked with the vacancy at Rangers back in 2017 after Pedro Caixinha 's dismissal.

It came as he was looking to guide the Socceroos to the 2018 World Cup in a two-legged play-off against Honduras.

There was speculation that the coach was interested in the Ibrox vacancy and could leave the Australia job to take it.

Ahead of the games, the Greek-born boss was quizzed about Rangers but simply dismissed the question.

Postecoglou shrugged: "Speculation, mate.

"The only thing on my radar is these two games. That's where all my energy is, that's where all my focus is and that's what's most important.

"Anything on that is not even on my radar.

"You can ask the question 20 different ways, you’ll get the same answer, 20 different versions of it.

"People are very interested in what happens if we qualify but I'm more interested in what happens if we don't qualify so it's in my interests to make sure that we do.

"My total headspace is around making sure we qualify for a World Cup, which I think is paramount at this point.

"The interest in whether I stay or not only becomes interesting to people if we qualify but no-one seems to be interested in what happens if we don't qualify — they're quite happy for me to walk out the door."

Postecoglou did indeed walk away after the play-offs, having secured Australia's place at the World Cup.

He didn't make the move to Ibrox but seems set to take over on the other side of the city.
