What Cardiff City will do next if Kieffer Moore is sold amid £7m Wolves links

Mick McCarthy has insisted that Cardiff City would have to replace Kieffer Moore if he is sold in the final dealings of the summer transfer window.

The Bluebirds centre-forward has been linked with Wolves in recent days, with the Premier League outfit thought to be considering a £7million bid for the player.

That is understood to be short of Cardiff's valuation of the player, with McCarthy himself stating that it would take a "crazy fee" for someone to prise away the Bluebirds' biggest asset.

McCarthy also stated no-one had contacted him personally over the potential sale of Moore and claimed that if the Welshman left the club at this late stage of the window it would drive him "bonkers".

However, should the 29-year-old depart for a sizeable fee, McCarthy believes he needs reinforcements before the window closes.

Cardiff have James Collins, Mark Harris, Isaac Vassell and youngsters Isaak Davies and Chanka Zimba in situ, but Moore's possible exit would leave a massive void in terms of experience and weight of Football League goals.

Asked if he thought he had enough within his squad if Moore were to depart, McCarthy replied: "No, I don't think we have.

"Kieffer Moore is a member of our squad who scored 20 goals last year and was outstanding. We lose him - no, we'd need a replacement. Definitely.

"That's not even in the thought process that we just let him go and get nobody else in. That would just be bonkers.

"But, the later it goes, if someone comes in - I'm talking ifs, buts and maybes here - and we do sell him, then that would make life really tough."

The summer transfer window shuts at 11pm on Tuesday, August 31.
