'What can we do?' - Mateusz Klich makes honest Leeds United assessment after Aston Villa defeat

Mateusz Klich admits Leeds United weren't clinical enough in the final third as they slipped to a 1-0 against Aston Villa at Elland Road.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, the scores were settled by Dutch winger Anwar El Ghazi, who scored on five minutes courtesy of a sharp touch and left-footed finish.

It was a result that means the Whites have now lost three of their last four - although they remained tenth in the table ahead of the Super Sunday fixtures.

Klich, though, has urged Marcelo Bielsa's side to do more at both ends of the pitch as they turn their attentions to facing West Ham United next Monday night.

During his post-match interview with the club, the midfielder said: "We wanted to win the game. We lost because we conceded a bad goal in the second phase of a set-piece. We should have done better there.

"It's hard to say why. We had some chances in the beginning of the game. We wanted to start quick."

The 30-year-old, who has been capped 29 times by Poland and joined Leeds in 2017, added: "Obviously, we knew Aston Villa were going to press us and they are a very good side, as well. We conceded an early goal and it didn't help us. It helped them massively.

"We tried, we had some chances and missed chances.

"What can we do? We brought on offensive players to change the game and, unfortunately, Pascal (Struijk) had to come off because he was injured and I had to go back a little bit to play defensive midfield.

"We tried, but it didn't work this time."

After El Ghazi had opened the scoring on the follow up to wayward strike from Ollie Watkins, the Whites struggled to make a mark at the other end.

Indeed, they only had three shots on target throughout the 90 minutes, while Raphinha passed up a good headed opportunity during the closing stages.

On that telling chance, Klich said: "Maybe it should have been. But it wasn't and that's it. It only matters when it ends up in the net.

"We have these games sometimes and we just need to be more clinical.

"No I don't think we did enough. I don't think we had a good game. Maybe we managed the ball well, but in the final third is the most important and we didn't really create dangers, maybe a couple of chances, but we can do better."
