What Bunny has to say about being one of the 'unhealthiest' places in Nottingham

An interactive map listing some of the "unhealthiest" places around Nottingham included the small village of Bunny alongside spots such as Sherwood, St Anns, the city centre and Clifton.

But why is Bunny, with only the Rancliffe Arms for a local pub and a Morrisons Daily for shopping, on the list?

The data, collected by the Consumer Data Research Centre, took into account factors such as access to GPs, hospitals, dentists, pharmacies, air quality and leisure.

Other factors include access to fast food and tobacconists, plus the presence of chemicals such as nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide - which cause acid rain - are considered too.

On arrival in the village, it was noticeable that there wasn’t a lot - not even passers-by. There are no takeaways, just a pub and a small shop. The village is extremely green, litter-free and quiet.

Nottinghamshire Live asked residents and visitors how they felt about Bunny being ranked as one of the unhealthiest areas around Nottingham.

Trevor Clutterbuck, a 40-year-old builder currently working in Bunny, from Ruddington, told Nottinghamshire Live he had no idea why the village had been ranked so poorly.

He said: “When you drive through, you wouldn’t think it’s that way inclined.

"There are no takeaways and the closest shop is a garage.

"I don’t have a clue why it’s on the list. I can’t see why it’s deemed unhealthy. It’s a nice area, you see people taking walks in the morning, you see them jogging. I’m shocked.”

Aaron Whittacker, 82, grew up in Bunny, and the retiree said he was shocked at the findings.

He said: “I don’t believe you. There’s nothing here, the only thing I can think of being unhealthy here is the junk being sold in the shops but you get that everywhere.”

In the nearby village of Ruddington, residents were surprised that their small neighbouring village had been classed as unhealthy.

Charles Hose, 68, who lives in Ruddington, is retired, and he told Nottinghamshire Live he was "incredulous" at the results.

He said: “There’s nothing there, I’m amazed. There’s plenty of unhealthy places but I’d have thought Bunny would be the last.”

Lucy Joyner, a 29-year-old nurse from Ruddington, told Nottinghamshire Live she couldn't understand why Bunny would be classed as "unhealthy".

She said: “I wouldn’t have thought it was unhealthy, it’s a small little place. I’ve occasionally been there when we go on walks.”

Property consultant Shaun Fox said he was surprised by the findings.

The 51-year-old said: “I’d have perhaps thought somewhere more industrial, like Neverfield I’d say, would be deemed unhealthy. Bunny is a quaint, little village.”
