What British Airways and TUI advise for holidays booked in August or September

After weeks and weeks of lockdown, few things seem more welcome right now than a relaxing holiday.

Unfortunately, it is more than a little difficult to work out when trips away will be a viable option again.

Currently government advice is not travel at all if possible, and many countries across the world aren't even allowing British citizens across their borders.

Some airlines have been tentatively releasing dates for when flights might resume, but these only cover the next couple of months - leaving late summer holidays shrouded in uncertainty.

The Mirror's sister title My London spoke to British Airways and TUI about what the expect in terms of flights in the coming months.

British Airways

British Airways is urging customers to regularly check updates regarding their specific flight on the  BA website.

If a flight has already been cancelled or it is scheduled for between now and July 31, passengers can claim a voucher to the value of the booking.

But what about if a flight has yet to be cancelled?

BA has a  Book With Confidence policy  which passengers are directed to if they ask about their flight.

The web page has no information about what's going on any further than July 31 however.

Part of the policy states that if a booking was made between March 3 and May 31 with a departure date up to December 31, 2020 travellers can change the booking date.

But if customers were more organised than this however and booked further in advance, this doesn't apply.

TUI

TUI offers a  'travel promise'  to customers, allowing them extra flexibility in their bookings, but again this only relates to holidays before July 11.

When asked about holidaymakers approaching the deadline to pay the final balance of their holidays a TUI UK spokesperson said: "We appreciate that customers may be feeling apprehensive about paying their final balance. If customers don’t continue with payments unfortunately the holiday will be cancelled.

"We’d like to reassure customers that all of our package holidays are  ATOL protected, so they can pay the balance with confidence.

"If the holiday has to be cancelled a refund credit incentive or cash refund option will be given."
