What Benji Kimpioka's brother did to ground and motivate his sibling after his Coventry goal

Benji Kimpioka has revealed the gesture from his brother that kept him hungry for more success after his first senior league goal for Sunderland last month.

Kimpioka, 19, came off the bench to net a late equaliser for the Black Cats as they drew 1-1 with fellow League One play-off contenders Coventry City at the Stadium of Light.

It was a fine moment for the young Swedish starlet who, out of contract at the end of the season, has been desperate for an opportunity to show what he can do.

And speaking of his emotions in the immediate aftermath of the game, he admits a message from his brother kept him grounded, and motivated for more goals.

He told the match day programme: "It took a bit of time for the emotion of the Coventry goal to come out.

“In the immediate aftermath of the game I just thought I should’ve scored another.

“My mum has taught me to enjoy what happens in the moment because you can only control that.

“It really sunk in when my brother sent me two pictures – one of my first day at Sunderland and another of me celebrating. It made me even more motivated to want to do it again.

“It was an incredible day but one I want to experience more and more.”
