Mikel Arteta and Edu will have a big transfer decision to make at Arsenal next summer.
Matteo Guendouzi, who fell out of favour under the Gunners manager back in June, is spending the 2020/21 season on loan in Germany with Hertha Berlin.
The midfielder has only made two league appearances for the Bundesliga outfit so far, but he impressed Arsenal fans on his full debut against Augsburg prior to the international break.
And they aren't the only ones who have been impressed by the 21-year-old.
Hertha Berlin's sporting director Michael Preetz has noted how Guendouzi has 'enriched' the club's style of play and teased a potential permanent transfer next summer.
"Three months ago, Matteo's loan signing wasn't possible, but it was at the beginning of October," Preetz said when speaking to German outlet Kicker.
"We are happy that he is there and that he enriched our game from the start.
"We'll see everything else next summer.
"How the prices will develop by then and what Arsenal is planning then, nobody can say today."
It remains to be seen if the Gunners are willing to cash in on Guendouzi at the end of the season, but they've been given a reminder of the midfielder's qualities which could make the decision easier.
Shortly after a permanent transfer was teased, Guendouzi was in action for France U21's against Switzerland in a European Championships qualifier.
As reported by Get French Football News, he was excellent in leading the side to a 3-1 win.
"Matteo Guendouzi with a masterclass tonight for France's U21s - intensity of pressing phenomenal in the dying embers of this match, with Les Bleuets playing with 10 men for over 30 mins owing to Colin Dagba's red card," the post reads.
This prompted some chatter from Arsenal fans on Reddit, with many urging Arteta to give Guendouzi another chance.
Carterxix said: "Really hope that Mikel can give the guy another chance, he could be useful for us."
witooZ said: "I don't know why this is mentioned under every post about Guendouzi. He should play based on his ability on his position, not because he gets in fights. I hope he will come back ready to fight for his spot and both him and Arteta can put the bad things behind them."
BlackMage7777 said: "He’s the complete opposite of Ozil and one of the most passionate players in an Arsenal shirt. Instead of freezing him out, the club should lead him in the right direction and show him how to harness that passion in a more effective way. I would do anything to have more players with his passion at the club."
