What Arsenal fans did at Goodison Park following Mikel Arteta's appointment as head coach

Mikel Arteta is in the stands as he runs the rule over Arsenal's squad following his appointment as head coach at the club on Friday to replace the sacked Unai Emery.

The Gunners are taking on Everton on Saturday lunchtime in the Merseyside sunshine and was pictured in the stands prior to kick off alongside Edu and also Steve Round, a coach who has previously worked at Everton and with England which lead to rumours suggesting he could be joining Arteta's backroom team.

Arteta was revealed to the world's media on Friday after leaving his assistant manager role at Manchester City to take up the ost but does not officially start until Sunday, with Freddie Ljungberg leading the team once again at Goodison Park.

Arteta, a popular figure at the Emirates anyway prior to his appointment as head coach from when he was a player, has already been serenaded by the visiting faithful who have made the trip to Everton for the lunchtime kick off.

While Arteta is watching on from the stands, so is another new manager in Carlo Ancelotti, who has taken the reigns at Everton to replace caretaker Duncan Ferguson.

The Toffees announced the arrival of the Italian around ten minutes before the team news dropped as they too have found a permanent successor for a sacked manager as Ancelotti takes over from Marco Silva.

Speaking at his unveiling yesterday, Arteta said he still plans to speak to Ljungberg over the Swede's role in the new setup at the Emirates.

"Like I said before, I need to sit down and have a proper conversation," he said when asked by football.london about Ljungberg's and his possible role at the club.

"I didn't believe that today was the day, just before travelling to speak to Freddie for 10 minutes because I might need to speak with him for eight hours to really understand then situation, his aims, what he's seen from the players.

"I need to understand the history of what's happened in the last 18 months at the club. We will sit down, grab a coffee or a bowl of coffee, then we will make the decision."
