What Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham ticket terms and conditions mean for coronavirus refunds

With reports that the Premier League could be playing games behind closed doors from this weekend onwards, questions inevitably turn towards what will happen for the fans.

There have been suggestions that games will be available to stream, but only for supporters who had tickets for the specific matches.

The decision is set to hinge on the government's Cobra meeting taking place on Thursday morning, but following the suspension of both Serie A last week and the NBA overnight, it is expected that the Premier League and EFL will be shutting their doors to fans for the foreseeable future.

With fans searching for answers, it seems likely that clubs would offer supporters refunds for matches they are unable to attend - or discounting prices on ticket renewals for next season.

However, many clubs have no legal requirement to refund games played behind closed doors.

Arsenal, for example, state in their ticketing terms and conditions that: "The Club reserves the right to reschedule any Match or, if necessary, play the Match out of view of the public, without notice and without any liability whatsoever."

The Arsenal Supporters' Trust have stated that they have contacted the club about the situation, but are still awaiting a response.

Chelsea make no specific mention to games played behind closed doors in their ticketing terms of issue, but do state that: "In the event of a Match postponement, abandonment or cancellation Chelsea FC will have no liability to Ticket Holders other than as set out in this paragraph 8, including (but not limited to) for loss of enjoyment, loss of a chance, loss of time, or travel costs or accommodation costs."

Similarly, Tottenham make no reference to games taking place behind closed doors in their Membership terms, but state that: "In the event of a Match being abandoned or postponed, tickets purchased for the original fixture will remain valid for the re-arranged date. It is the responsibility of the ticket holder to ascertain the new date and kick off time of all Matches."
