What Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs have done with Man United and Liverpool to anger Pep Guardiola

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are among a group of eight clubs who have reportedly written to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to stop Manchester City playing in next season's Champions League.

Manchester City have been given a two-year ban from European football, after UEFA charged the club for breaches of financial fair play rules.

Pep Guardiola's side have already pleaded their innocence and submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

But City's rivals are aware that the reigning Premier League champions could ask to have their punishment deferred while CAS handle their appeal.

And with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic likely to delay the case further, there is a real possibility that City could compete in next season's Champions League.

In order to prevent that scenario, the Daily Mail claim eight of the Premier League's current top 10 have submitted a joint application to the CAS to request that City serve their punishment while their appeal is ongoing.

The report also states that the only top 10 club other than City not included in the application is Sheffield United.

One source close to the application was quoted by the Mail saying: "The feeling is that enough is enough

"For too long, City have been able to get away with breaching the rules at the expense of at least one other club that has been unable to get into the Champions League.

"The fear is that they will be able to delay any punishment."

Should City's ban stand,  UEFA's admission criteria  means that finishing in fifth place in the Premier League this season would mean qualification for the Champions League.
