What are your art secrets?

Wish you were here ... £35 postcards at the RCA Secret exhibition

This morning, the Royal College Of Art puts on its annual RCA Secret exhibition. Hundreds of artists, both famous and unknown, create postcard-sized works of art that can be purchased for £35 each. The gag is that you don't know who's created which artwork. Only after buying a piece do they tell you who made it.

This year's exhibition contains postcards by Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst and Paula Rego, along with painting musicians John Squire (ex-Stone Roses) and Graham Coxon (ex-Blur), David Bailey and Paul Smith. So - leaving artistic considerations aside - there is the potential to snap up a bargain.

The theme of getting something for nothing (or not much) seems especially current in the art world at the moment. A documentary, Who The #$&% is Jackson Pollock? opened yesterday in New York, taking as its subject a 73-year-old truck driver, Teri Horton, who bought a canvas in a thrift store for $5 that may, or may not, be by one of the world's most expensive artists.

At the risk of getting a bit Antiques Roadshow here, have you ever scored an art bargain? Will you be going to the Secrets sale? And have you got any tips on what to look for you'd care to share with the rest of us?
