Liverpool have been linked with a number of midfielders throughout the summer - with Renato Sanches among them.
The 24-year-old has rebuilt his promising career with Lille, having been a teenage prodigy with Benfica.
However, despite being tentatively linked as Gini Wijnaldum’s replacement at Liverpool , there have been several reports suggesting that the Portuguese midfielder is set for a loan move to Wolves.
Having been a standout performer in Ligue 1, as well as a key part of the Portugal setup, some Reds fans were shocked to see that the club were not pursuing the deal.
Part of the Portugal side that won Euro 2016, while he was still a teenager, a less-than-successful move to Bayern Munich followed, as well as a disappointing loan spell with Swansea City.
Since joining Lille in 2019, Sanches has been able to recapture the form that saw Bayern pay an initial €35m for him, three years previously. The club pulled off a shock title win last season, beating PSG to top spot, with their number 18 at the heart of midfield.
After seeing previous reports suggesting the French champions would command a sizeable fee for their talismanic midfielder, Liverpool fans were left surprised by the news that he was available for loan.
However, Liverpool sources indicated last December that Sanches would not be on the radar - and that applied for the January window as well as this summer.
