A new Tier 4 alert level has been created in England, the Prime Minister has announced.
The addition to the tier system is similar to that of the national lockdown last seen in England in November.
All current Tier 3 areas in London and South East, will be moved into the new tier just days after being moved into the 'very high' alert category.
Non-essential shops, hairdressers, gyms, leisure and entertainment venues - such as cinemas - must close on top of normal Tier 3 closures.
As a result, Christmas bubbles will not be allowed at all in Tier 4 with residents in Tier 4 areas being told they must not leave their area.
They will be subject to a legal stay at home order like in the November lockdown.
