What are Kirkpatrick Durham folk's holiday plans now that lockdown is easing?

As Scotland gradually begins to open up after lockdown thoughts are beginning to turn to holidays and where to take them.

Restrictions on travel have decimated the tourism industry.

Prospects for a recovery in demand for flights to the Spanish costas or the Greek islands are uncertain. But where are the good citizens of Kirkpatrick Durham considering going to get away from it all this year?

Morag Ritchie. (Jim McEwan)

Morag Ritchie was not convinced about holidaying abroad any time soon. She said: “I won’t be venturing very far, I’m afraid.

“Because of Covid I don’t see any point in shelling out money to go abroad. A lot of places won’t be open so I’m quite happy dottering about here.

“I’ll maybe just get a tent and head over to Portpatrick for a holiday this year!”

Linda Cowan (Jim McEwan)

Linda Cowan is also not inclined to travel far. She said: “I’m quite leery about going on a plane. Also if there’s an outbreak abroad and a lockdown you might not be able to get back home. Then you would be really stuck.

“A lot of folk will be wary and stay at home.

“We’ll maybe just go to Portpatrick – it’s a great place.”

David Wishart. (Jim McEwan)

David Wishart reckons the hills of home are best. He said: “I have had some really cracking holidays in this country. I think it’s important we support our own tourist businesses especially in this area.

“I would encourage people to stay at home for holidays this year.”

Pauline Gammon. (Jim McEwan)

It was home is best for Pauline Gammon too. She said: “Usually we go to Gran Canaria golfing holidays in winter – but not this year.

“I’m not keen to get myself into a situation where I’m going to be worrying on holiday rather than relaxing.

“So it’s Scotland for us and we’ll be travelling in our own car and using masks.

“I’m just not interested in hopping on a plane at the moment.”
