What are fast, slow or average finishing times for the Great North Run?

You've spent months preparing for the Great North Run so will be hoping to clock the best time possible.

Or, you may be worried you haven't prepared enough and could be set to slightly embarrass yourself on Sunday.

There is - of course - no shame in walking the 13.1 mile Great North Run , it's the taking part and finishing which matters.

But competition, bragging rights and achieving goals are all drivers which can give runners that tough of extra horse power when taking on the Great North Run.

While it's unlikely you'll be hot on Mo Farah's heels, you may want to know what time you should be aiming for if you want to be better than most, or even the best runner who isn't an elite athlete.

And Mo himself might want a reminder of the course record, which he doesn't hold, as he attempts to win the race for the sixth consecutive time .

So, with that all in mind, here are the fastest, slowest and average times for the Great North Run for both elite athletes and the general runners, taken from last year's event.
