What are EntryCheck SA and HealthCheck SA and what else to do before entering South Australia under COVID-19 reopening on November 23?

Technology is key to South Australia's strategy to contain COVID-19 when the state reopens its borders to NSW, Victoria and the ACT next Tuesday, November 23.

If you want to enter South Australia, you need to use the new EntryCheck SA website to find out the restrictions that apply to you.

You may then also need to download the new HealthCheck SA app if you need to check symptoms, get tested or quarantine.

The mySA GOV app will also be updated to allow you to show you have been vaccinated when entering a business or other venue from next week.

EntryCheck SA website

A new website called EntryCheck SA website will be live at 5pm today.

If you want to come to South Australia, you will need to create a mySA GOV account — the same type of account used by South Australians for things such as paying car registration.

From there, the website asks for personal information such as your name and date of birth, as well as your Medicare number.

It will also ask where you have spent the majority of your time over the past 14 days or if you have been overseas recently.

It will also ask for proof that you and your dependents have been fully vaccinated (children under 12 are treated as if they are vaccinated) .

This proof can come through a certificate that can be connected from the Express Plus Medicare or federal myGov apps.

You may also need an international vaccine certificate if you have been overseas.

Once the forms are completed, you will get an email telling you what your requirements are to enter South Australia.

Depending on where you have been, you will be sent an email and text message with a link to download the HealthCheck SA app — but only on the day you are planning to enter South Australia.

Unvaccinated people or those from Byron Bay — where the vaccination rate is under 80 per cent — will need to get an exemption through SA Health.

HealthCheck SA app

Once you download the HealthCheck SA app — if you need to — it will step you through checking for COVID-19 symptoms, when to get tested or of necessary, how long you will need to quarantine, either at a medi-hotel or at home.

The app will replace another app used during a home quarantine trial earlier this year

That app contacted participants randomly, giving them 15 minutes to prove they are home, using a combination of facial recognition and geo-location technology.

It will also tell users the result of their tests.

Changes to QR check-in app

From December last year, South Australians have been required to check-in at businesses and other venues using the mySA GOV app.

The data is used for contact-tracing after it is known that a COVID-19 case visited the location.

From Tuesday, you will be able to upload your COVID-19 vaccination certificate into the app in addition to the app known as VaxCheck.

If you check-in using a QR code and the business or venue requires you to be vaccinated, it will also show on your mobile phone screen that you have been vaccinated under the regular green tick.

"The intent is to make it easier both for the businesses and for the consumers to streamline the process to show that vaccination where the venue requires it," Department of the Premier and Cabinet chief digital officer James Galdes said.

Adelaide Oval, Zoos SA, the Adelaide Convention Centre, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and Hindmarsh Stadium all announced yesterday they would require patrons to be vaccinated.

What if you don't have a smartphone?

The EntryCheck SA website can be used on a computer or a mobile phone.

If you have a mobile phone but not a smartphone, and would otherwise be required to use the HealthCheck SA app, you will get text messages reminding you to get tested or check for symptoms.

SA Health has redeployed administrative and nursing staff to help people use the EntryCheck SA website when entering the state if they have trouble using the internet.

Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Emily Kirkpatrick today said people could bring a printout of their vaccination status from their doctor or other government websites.

You can sign in to businesses and venues on a paper form.
