A survey by RealHolidayReports.Com, the holiday and hotel review site shows that while 31% of British holiday makers complained about lager louts being the most annoying factor on holiday, coming a close second at 26.2% was towels on sunloungers.
Timeshare reps (20.3%), flight delays (16.1%) and mozzies (6.4%) were the other most annoying factors that caused even the best-laid plans to go wrong, the poll found.
Travel companies can breathe a sigh of relief, however, as most of the things cited by grumpy travellers are beyond the control of operators or agents.
"We were very surprised that the flight delays did not make top spot," said a spokesman for the website. "Resort bar owners and hotel managers should take a more responsible position when it comes to serving people with too much alcohol, and the sunbed issue has been raging for so many years, you would think it should have been sorted by now. Why not allocate each room their own sun bed via a numbers system, then the need to set your alarm at five in the morning to get up and reserve one would stop," he added.
RealHolidayReports.com aims to give travellers a place to research where to stay on their holiday and is aimed at the 17m Britons who take package holidays abroad each year and are looking for independent advice before they book, rather than just relying on a paragraph in a glossy brochure.
