What Andre Gomes did before Everton's win over Southampton as Richarlison impact praised

Marco Silva revealed Andre Gomes text him before Everton's victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Gomes underwent successful surgery on a fracture dislocation to his ankle earlier in the week but could miss the rest of the Premier League campaign after suffering the injury against Tottenham Hotspur.

"He text me before the match and for sure I did the same with him," Silva told Match of the Day following the win on the South Coast.

"He is really happy, supports all the team. The difference is just Andre is not on the pitch when we love to see him playing in his best level but he will be always with us in our thoughts and always with us supporting us and we are here supporting Andre as well."

Tom Davies opened the scoring for Everton before Southampton's Danny Ings levelled shortly after the interval.

Richarlison, however, slammed home a pinpoint Djibril Sidibe cross to hand Silva a first away win since March and pundit Danny Murphy was impressed with the Brazilian's performance.

"He was at it from the first minute," the former Fulham midfielder said. "He had good energy and he was powerful. He was more positive and confident.

"Sometimes his play in the final third isn't quite there but he is a young player of course.

"He made better decisions in the final third and was more of a threat. He wasn't static and he's more of a threat on the left-hand side."The best part of his game is when he stands people up.

"It was a brilliant cross and it was a great finish. Now it's just about consistency for him and Everton."
