During the ceremony for renaming a Florida boulevard after himself, Trump paused his prepared remarks to acknowledge Laura Loomer. But not as a political ally or a supporter. He spoke with a familiarity that immediately set off alarm bells.
“Hi, Laura,” Trump said. “Boy, you are something. What spirit do you have? Laura. Laura Loomer. Thank you, honey, for being here. I appreciate it,” he said directly to her. Then, he turned to the crowd and disgustingly announced, “She’s, you know, she can be a little nasty. But to me, she’s always nice, so that’s all that matters.” He added, “I want her to stay that way.”
The moment was short but profoundly uncomfortable. Presidents thank supporters all the time, but Trump’s tone was… something beyond words. It wasn’t casual or appropriate for an official ceremony. It was weirdly intimate, especially toward a woman who’s not related to Trump at all.
Trump wasn’t praising Loomer’s activism, her ideas, or her role in the event. He was praising how she treats him. The metric was loyalty, not contribution. His words were not of political acknowledgment. It was personal, possessive, and unnecessary.
Laura Loomer must be screeching with happiness
Laura Loomer’s obsession with Trump is very apparent, including her repeated attempts to insert herself into his orbit. She constantly performs public loyalty for him in exchange for validation. She’s not a neutral political figure. She is a far-right provocateur with a long history of inflammatory rhetoric, conspiracy-mongering, and extremist alignment.
Everybody knows that Loomer’s whole public persona revolves around proximity to Trump and open admiration for authoritarian power. This was the second time she got public validation from Trump after last month. During the White House Christmas Party on Dec. 15, he accidentally announced her engagement and called her “a very beautiful young woman—very low-key, not controversial at all.”
Everybody on the internet went “Oh yuck.”

The response online this time was pure disgust. “Thank you, honey???? Deeply embarrassing,” one wrote. Another added, “What an unfortunate day to have ears.” Others expressed disbelief that figures associated with QAnon-style extremism are being welcomed and praised at official events. But most couldn’t move on from the “honey” and “nasty” comment.
“That’s some creepy sh-t,” one user wrote. “Even for Grampy.” Another summed it up bluntly: “This is sick depravity on so many levels.” What made it worse was that Trump didn’t accidentally say this. He was comfortable and deliberate. And that comfort reveals something disgusting.
Even if we ignore the obvious intimate notes, it suggests that he praises people for obedience, not competence. He acknowledged Loomer for being “nice” to him. It proves that their dynamic is anything but political.
