What Alvaro Morata has said after signing for Atletico that will upset Chelsea fans

Chelsea have confirmed that striker Alvaro Morata has joined La Liga side Atletico Madrid on a permanent basis.

The Spaniard was nearly half-way through an 18-month loan with the Spanish side, but has previously made it clear that he saw his long term future at his hometown club.

Morata scored six goals in his 15 La Liga appearances since signing on loan in January.

He joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017, and started brightly for the club, scoring six goals in his first six Premier League appearances for the Blues including a hat trick in the 4-0 victory against Stoke City.

But the striker never built on the positive start, and found himself in and out of the team under former Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri, going on loan to Atletico during the winter window.

Following the news of his transfer, Morata has taken to social meda, and the post may not go down too well with Chelsea fans.

"Happy. It's official," he wrote. "Now I will have time to return with work and goals all the effort of the club and the affection of the fans. Thank you!!!"

The striker has never made a secret of the fact that he craved a permanent move away from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but the lack of thanks for fans who once sang his name in the Stamford Bridge stands may just leave a bitter taste in the mouths of Blues' supporters.
