What Alex Telles did to impress Manchester United coaches on his debut

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lauded Alex Telles's corner-taking after the Manchester United full-back's debut against Paris Saint-Germain.

New £13.6million signing Telles, 27, started at left wing-back as United reverted to a back three in their superb Champions League group win at the Parc des Princes

United led 1-0 at half-time but were close to going in 2-0 up after Scott McTominay met Telles's inswinging corner that was deflected wide. Overall, Telles attempted eight crosses on an impressive first appearance for his new club before he made way for Paul Pogba in the 67th minute.

"I think we've shown today that we have a squad that can play different ways, different systems," Solskjaer said. "We played well against Newcastle.

Solskjaer highlights the key performers in victory over PSG

"Alex was very, very good on his debut. We know his delivery is fantastic and we've got players back home with Harry [Maguire], Edinson [Cavani], Mason [Greenwood], Jesse [Lingard] and Eric [Bailly]. So I'm looking forward to the next few months."

Marcus Rashford nervelessly settled United's round-of-16 tie with PSG 19 months ago and was the matchwinner again with an arrowed 87th minute strike to secure back-to-back victories.

Rashford, 22, has generated admiration for campaigning for the government to allow over a million children to claim free school meal vouchers in England's summer holidays during the coronavirus pandemic, and received an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The United forward has four goals in five starts this season and Solskjaer believes Rashford's philanthropy has energised his performances.

"He's a good footballer and he's got quality and took his goal very, very well," Solskjaer opined. "A great turn, good finish, down in the corner - he likes that side.

"I think when you're happy on the pitch and happy with what you're doing off the pitch they marry well together and I'm sure he knows [that]. I think it gives him energy, what he does, so I don't think that's a problem."
