What Ainsley Maitland-Niles said to Emile Smith Rowe whilst celebrating Arsenal's fourth goal

Arsenal sealed top spot in their Europa League group as they recorded a comfortable 4-1 win over Rapid Wien on Thursday night.

Goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Pablo Mari, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe gave Mikel Arteta's side the perfect response to last weekend's home defeat to Wolves, and continued their 100 percent record in this season's Europa League.

The competition has handed Arteta the chance to give his younger players minutes, and with the group won with a game to spare, the Gunners boss could give starts to the likes of Folarin Balogun and Smith Rowe in their final game against Dundalk.

Smith Rowe did his chances of a start no harm, after coming off the bench against Wien and tapping in Arsenal's fourth goal, after good work from Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Arsenal 4 - 1 Rapid Vienna: Mikel Arteta post-match press conference

After his goal, the BT Sport cameras picked up the pair celebrating, with Maitland-Niles clearly saying to his fellow academy graduate: "Welcome back, bro!”

The teenager spent several months on loan at Huddersfield last season, and is pushing for more first team football at the Emirates.

Speaking after the game, Arteta admitted he was delighted with the youngster's performance.

"Yes, the same with Emile and the same that Joe Willock gives in those positions because they are attacking midfielder, they are not holding midfielders," Arteta said.

"They have it in their minds that they want to make those runs, make that final pass, they want to shoot and at the moment we need that: we need people with the mindset to score goals.

"They want to go there, they want to take their chances, they want to be aggressive when they have the ball and when the ball is far from them, they have to make it to the box because the middle of the goal is when goals are scored.

"When you get in those positions constantly, the chances of scoring goals increases so it is good to see that."

Arsenal travel to north London rivals Tottenham on Sunday, with Arteta expected to make wholesale changes to his starting line up.

But the Arsenal boss admitted that some of the players who stood out on Thursday could force their way into his plans for the north London derby.

"You’ve seen that in the last few games we’ve used some players on Thursday and they played on the weekend.

"This can change and this will change. I try to use different competitions to put two different teams, it’s because as well we are using them with the amount of injuries, suspensions and things that we had the performance level that they can give is in very good positions and you can see tonight that some of them might deserve to start the game on Sunday."
