What advice Bristol Airport has for passengers as Storm Ciara hits this weekend

Winds of up to 80mph and huge downpours are expected to batter the whole country this weekend as Storm Ciara comes in.

And it's feared the strong gusts and rain could cause major disruption to our rail services, motorways and airports.

Forecasters at the Met Office have predicted the worst weather will hit  on Sunday. Four yellow weather warnings for wind and rain have been issued across the country.

Tonight (January 6), bosses at Bristol Airport have moved to reassure passengers that it's unlikely the storm will cause delays to their travels.

A spokesperson said: "We are in constant contact with the Met Office and continue to monitor the situation carefully, however modern aircraft are still able to operate in the majority of adverse conditions.

"Our advice to passengers would be to check with their airline for the most up to date information on their flight and any potential delays, although at this stage we don't anticipate there being any."

What is Storm Ciara?

The Met Office's yellow warnings says there's a chance of danger to life due to flying debris.

The alert stats:

  • Ijuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
