New Liverpool hero Caoimhin Kelleher has revealed the message he was given by Adrian before his surprise Champions League debut.
With Alisson Becker ruled out by a hamstring problem, Kelleher was preferred by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to the experienced Adrian for the Group D showdown with Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old responded with an excellent display and kept a clean sheet as the Premier League champions secured progress to the knockout stages with a 1-0 win.
And Kelleher has explained the reaction from his fellow goalkeepers ahead of the match.
"I didn't see Ali yesterday (Monday) because I think he was gone, but I got a text before the game just to tell me good luck," he said.
"Adrian was a really great support. He told me, 'I'm with you 100% and supporting you no matter what'.
"To get that from him was really kind of him. "
Klopp made a beeline for Kelleher at the final whistle before embracing the Irishman, who was making only the fifth senior appearance of his career.
And the goalkeeper said: "Of course, it was a nice moment for him to come to me and to get an embrace. He just said it's fully deserved, so it was a nice moment for me."
When asked when he discovered he was playing, Kelleher added: "I found out yesterday (Monday), I got told by management and stuff. Then in the team shape we did, I was the starting goalie.
"Obviously I was excited when I found out and then just tried to focus on the game from there. "
Kelleher is now favourite to remain between the sticks for Sunday's Premier League visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers with Alisson likely to be out for up to a fortnight.
And the youngster, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, said: "When I get my opportunity, I just need to take it. I think I've done well, so hopefully I can push on and if I get another opportunity, just take it again.
"I'm just working hard every day in training, preparing myself. I'm always thinking if a chance does come, I'll have to be ready for it.
"So that's why I work every day and thankfully all that work did pay off."
