What Aaron Ramsdale has done after Arsenal’s victory over Aston Villa

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was spotted watching AFC Wimbledon’s home game against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The 23-year-old joined the Gunners from relegated Sheffield United in the summer for roughly £25m and has managed to earn the number one shirt under Mikel Arteta.

Though he was unable to keep a clean sheet on the night, Ramsdale impressed again with a selection of saves as the debate rumbles on between him or Bernd Leno playing as the starting goalkeeper.

The England international spent a season on loan at AFC Wimbledon in 2019 while he was at Bournemouth. He joined in January and made 20 league appearances for the Dons, winning Young Player of the Season for the club for his performances in goal.

Wimbledon ended up surviving in League One, despite being ten points from safety in February. The impact of Ramsdale’s arrival was clear for all to see.

Speaking on the goalkeeper’s impact for the Gunners, Arteta said: “The way we decided to recruit Aaron was to go through a big process where obviously we wanted to know a lot about his personality, his character and the way he could handle the big pressure of playing for a big club.

“He's showing that he's ready to do that. I'm really happy with his performances and what he's bringing to the team and it's another reason why the team has made it difficult to concede goals.”

Ramsdale took to Twitter to show his support for Wimbledon following Arsenal’s victory against Aston Villa, tweeting a photo of Plough Lane with the caption: "What a place this is! Come on the Dons."

Ramsdale's presence was not helpful for the home side as Wimbledon went down to a 2-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic.
