What Aaron Ramsdale did before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal as Mikel Arteta is proved right

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta called it in his pre-match press conference.

And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang proved the Gunners boss right by doubling the home side's lead against Tottenham Hotspur in the first-half of Sunday's North London Derby.

The Arsenal captain - who was left out of the starting XI for the corresponding fixture last season - went into the game at the Emirates Stadium having scored just once in the Premier League so far this term.

And despite drawing a blank last weekend against Burnley, Arteta was waxing lyrical about his centre-forward and tipped Aubameyang to get on the scoresheet vs Spurs.

"Now he’s been in really good form. I think the way he played at Burnley, even if he didn’t score a goal, it was extraordinary the way he played for the team," Arteta told reporters.

"We are expecting him to play the same.

"He will - and he’s generated the chances and we have to generate more and put him through on more occasions, where we know how it’s going end up.

"He’s in good form."

Whilst Arteta has been proved right about Aubameyang, what may please the Arsenal manager even more was the build up to the goal.

Aaron Ramsdale - experiencing a North London Derby for the first time - played a very risky ball out to Granit Xhaka who was under pressure from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

However, the Swiss midfielder managed to evade the Dane's attempts to win the ball for Spurs as he played the ball into Kieran Tierney and a few seconds later Arsenal were celebrating.

Bukayo Saka then added a third shortly after to complete a devastating first half-hour for the hosts.
