Gordon Ramsay branded 'rip off' for charging £31.50 fish and chips at new restaurant

Foul-mouthed celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has come under fire after he revealed customers will have to shell out more than £30 for fish and chips at his new restaurant.

Fans were shocked when he announced fish deep fried in cider cost £24.50 at The River Restaurant in London and a portion of chips will set you back £7.

The upscale eatery is due to open October 11 in the luxurious five-star The Savoy Hotel.

According to the website, the "stylish and relaxed all-day dining restaurant" offers panoramic views of the River Thames and "showcases the very best shellfish and seafood the UK has to offer".

When the Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares star shared a photograph of the deep-fried meal on social media and excitedly announced the restaurant was due to open in less than two weeks, fans were quick to criticise the price. and the portion sizes.

With a 15 per cent service charge on top, the dish costs more than £36, reports The Sun.

"£25 for that fish! Rip off, I could eat for a week for that," wrote one on Instagram.

One Facebook user joked: "Maybe one day if I win the lottery".

One woman wrote: "Rather eat my local chippy. At least it's not kids' portions ."

"Do you have a fully grown adults menu too?" asked one man.

However, some of his supporters leapt to his defence and said they were excited to try the cuisine at The River Restaurant.

"A lot of jealous comments on this thread. If you don't like his food, cost, portions then follow those you aren't jealous of and leave those who appreciate good quality food to enjoy it," wrote one woman.

While the chef's new menu has proved to be controversial, his 19-year-old daughter Tilly Ramsay has been impressing Strictly Come Dancing fans with her fancy footwork.

She is one of the contestants on the current 2021 series and has been paired with 23-year-old newcomer professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin.

The pair appear to be bonding well after being partnered to dance for the 19th season of the long-running BBC One dance show.
