'What a player!' - Arsenal fans love what Gabriel Martinelli has done vs Man City

Youngster Gabriel Martinelli has marked his return to the Arsenal starting line-up with a bang this evening, claiming an assist in the Gunners' Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

Following Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, under-fire Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta elected to make eight changes to his starting line-up, handing opportunities to some of his fringe players to prove their worth.

Amongst the changes that the Spaniard made was a return to the starting line-up for the first time this season for Brazilian sensation Martinelli, who has now fully recovered following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

What is likely to happen in Arsenal's transfer window?

Starting in attack alongside Alexandre Lacazette, who was also restored to the starting line-up after starting on the bench against Everton, Martinelli showcased his magic in the first half, playing a key role in the Gunners' equaliser.

After falling behind early on to Gabriel Jesus' header, the Gunners responded through a header of their own, with Lacazette nodding past City goalkeeper Zack Steffen after connecting with Martinelli's excellent cross from the left flank.

Though the goal will have done wonders for Lacazette's confidence, with the Frenchman having been on a run of nine domestic games without a goal, it wasn't him receiving all of the credit.

After the celebrations had died down, the Gunners fans heaped no shortage of praise on the shoulders of Martinelli, with them delighted to have seen him mark his return with a bang.

Here is how some Arsenal fans reacted to Martinelli's assist on social media...

A few minutes after registering an assist, though, Arsenal's supporters were forced to hold their breathe after the forward went down after colliding with Steffen.

The 19-year-old appeared to be in a lot of pain, pulling his shirt over his face, whilst being attended to by the Gunners' medical staff on the pitch as half-time approached.

Fortunately, he was able to continue and reappeared for the start of the second half. However, he was replaced just four minutes into the second half, although his exit from the contest seemed to be a precaution.

The striker only made his return to first-team action on Saturday, stepping off the bench at Everton, after being sidelined since June with a serious knee problem.
