'What a night' - Former Leeds United duo reminisce about famous Champions League triumph

It is arguably one of the stand-out performances - and certainly results - in the club's history.

On this day 19 years ago Leeds United recorded a resounding 3-0 win over Deportivo la Coruna in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg.

The Elland Road victory was enough to see them reach the semi-finals, despite a 2-0 reversal in the second tie in Spain.

For many Whites fans it was one of the best performances they had ever seen, with David O'Leary's side completely dominant against their La Liga foes.

Now, almost two decades on, the match is still remembered fondly by Leeds fans.

And it seems the protagonists in that victory are also still fond of reminiscing about the events that night too.

Former LUFC players Ian Harte and Olivier Dacourt have been sharing memories of the game on social media.

Irish full-back Harte retweeted the official Leeds United Twitter account earlier today after they uploaded highlights of the 2001 clash.

He simply put: "What a night at Elland Road."

The tweet gained almost 2,000 likes and there was one reply in particular that stood out.

French midfielder Dacourt replied: "Good memories my friend."

Harte, of course, opened the scoring that night at Elland Road with a thumping free-kick from outside the area.

Goals from Alan Smith and Rio Ferdinand put the icing on the cake on what remains a stand-out night for all associated with Leeds.
