What a move to Level Two would mean for Smyths, Penneys and Christmas shopping

The Government is hopeful of moving Ireland straight into Level Two once lockdown is over if we can get the virus levels low enough.

Speaking during the week, Minister Stephen Donnelly said the plan for next month is to “open back up” and added “there is a possibility it might be Level Two”.

And with Level Two at the forefronts of people's minds - here's a look at what it would mean for shopping.

Many people will be hoping to get all their shopping done in the early days of December and it will be good news if Ireland does move straight to that stage.

Retailers like Smyths, Penneys, Argos and more will open their doors again and go back to how they operated before the lockdown.

This would mean Christmas shopping would very much be on once all regular guidelines are followed.

People would again be asked to wear face masks, socially distance and respecting the two metre rules.

This week, Taoiseach Micheal Martin said that Christmas would be different but could still be enjoyable.

Mr Martin said: "We are conscious that people want a Christmas, it won't be the same as last year, it can't be because of a global pandemic.

"Nonetheless, I think that given we are all learning as we move along, individually, collectively and as families on how Covid impacts on people.

"I do believe we can create a window of opportunity for December so people can have a good Christmas albeit a different Christmas than usual."
