Whale dead after becoming stranded near Glasgow Airport in Black Cart Water

A whale has sadly died after becoming stranded in Black Cart Water near Glasgow Airport.

An emergency rescue operation was put into action earlier today after the animal was seen getting into distress.

However, British Divers Marine Life Rescue have since confirmed to Glasgow Live the whale could not be saved.

A spokesperson for the organisation confirmed the whale was a Northern Bottlenose.

Yesterday we reported the sighting of a Northern Bottlenose whale on the Clyde, by Glasgow Harbour.

It's understood the Northern Bottlenose breed of the species made its way down from Garelochead where a pod of whales was recently sighted.

UPDATE: It's understood the rescue operation took place in Black Cart Water, not White Cart Water as previously stated.
