WFP Executive Director Urges More Crossings For Gaza Aid

Aid trucks enter from Egypt en route to Gaza, at the Kerem Shalom crossing

The Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that the agency has stockpiled enough food to feed 1.1 million people for three months outside Gaza. The main challenge now is to ensure the safe delivery of this aid into the region. The importance of having sufficient and accessible crossings for humanitarian aid was highlighted by the WFP Chief, emphasizing the need for more entry points into Gaza.

Israel's decision to temporarily open the Erez crossing and Ashdod port was welcomed by the WFP as a crucial step in facilitating aid operations. The Erez crossing, in particular, is vital for the delivery of humanitarian assistance into northern Gaza. The first shipments of aid were expected to arrive at the Erez crossing on Sunday, following the Israeli government's announcement.

According to the WFP, the aid delivery is not just about providing food but also ensuring that the right types of food reach those in need. Special attention is being given to providing nutritious food for young children who are particularly vulnerable and require essential nutrients for their well-being.

The WFP's efforts to deliver aid into Gaza are part of a broader humanitarian mission to alleviate the suffering of the population in the region. The successful delivery of food and supplies is crucial in meeting the urgent needs of the people affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
