Wexford stab victim named as 33-year-old Bray, Co Wicklow native Philip Doyle

A woman is being questioned by gardai tonight after a man was stabbed to death in his family home.

Philip Doyle, 33, originally from Bray, Co Wicklow, died after receiving fatal stab wounds in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardai received reports of an incident in the from Ramsgate Village estate in Gorey, Co Wexford shortly before 2am Sunday morning.

On arrival, a man, named locally as Philip Doyle, was found in the front garden of the home with fatal stab wounds.

He was treated by emergency services but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A woman was arrested at the scene and is tonight being held at Gorey garda station.

The victim, originally from Bray, worked as a mechanic.

Wexford County Councillor Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin said people in Gorey are worried that violence is becoming an all-too-frequent occurrence.

The Sinn Fein councillor, who is familiar with the estate, said: “ There’s quite a lot of reaction locally to this.

“The people in the estate are quite shocked. They’re saying that violence is becoming too casual.”

Mr Ó Súilleabháin said many of the people living in Ramsgate Village estate would have moved there recently.

Locals are also concerned about "a lack of strong garda presence" in Gorey, where the local station was down-graded in 2013.

This meant the Gorey station lost its superintendent, who was moved to Enniscorthy.

Mr Ó Súilleabháin said: “The numbers in the Gorey garda station are way below what they should be for the size of the district and the fact that the population is rapidly increasing.”

Meanwhile, local Fianna Fail councillor Joe Sullivan expressed sympathy for the families.

He told the Irish Mirror: “At this stage, we can only offer our sympathies and condolences to the families of all involved.”
