Wexford GAA confirm positive Covid-19 cases among football and hurling panels

Wexford GAA have confirmed two Covid-19 cases among their senior hurling panel and four positive test results among their senior footballers.

54 people from the Wexford senior hurlers' management, backroom team and players were tested and two positive results were returned after they availed of the GAA's new rapid testing system.

The Wexford footballers travel to face Limerick in a Division 4 National Football League clash on Sunday while the hurlers begin their Championship campaign with the Leinster semi-final against Galway on October 31.

The news comes as virus cases continue to impact the return of inter-county GAA across the country.

Offaly's senior camogie side have given a walkover to Cork in their All-Ireland Camogie Championship clash - which had been scheduled for this Saturday.

Offaly Camogie confirmed that they would be withdrawing from the fixture after a member of their management team tested positive for Covid-19 and players were forced to self-isolate 'due to unrelated cases'.

Addressing concerns around sporting fixtures earlier today, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Simon Coveney told RTE's Morning Ireland:  "We do have concerns in relation to sporting fixtures.

"That's why we've removed the exemption that would allow club championships to proceed. They now can't proceed.

"The only sporting fixtures that we are going to see are effectively high-level, inter-county sport behind closed doors - managed very carefully by the sporting organisations that are responsible for that."
