Wexford baby may have tragically died from neck injury involving pen

A baby boy may have died from a neck injury involving a pen as gardai are investigating all circumstances.

It's understood Se Joyce, one, tragically died on Tuesday after falling down the stairs at his home in Co Wexford.

The 15-month-old tot was rushed to Wexford General Hospital after the fall at the house in Clonroche.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Gardai are not treating the death as suspicious.

A source told the Irish Mirror that he died after an accident which involved a pen.

And a post-mortem examination revealed that little Se received a cut to the jugular vein in his neck, the Independent reports.

Locals were rallying around his heartbroken parents Brenda and Padraig, who have three older kids, after the tragedy.

“They live in a cul-de-sac there and there’s a lot of good neighbours, good friends and relations on the road and they’ll rally around them at this time.

“It’s a hugely tragic accident and the whole area is in absolute shock."

A Garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí continue to investigate the death of a child in Co Wexford.

"The incident occurred at 1.15pm on 2nd April 2019 at Clonroche, Co. Wexford. The child was taken to Wexford General Hospital where he was pronounced dead."
