Wetherspoons to slash prices for one day only next week

It's already known for his pocket-friendly prices.

But Wetherspoon pubs will be cutting the price of all food and drink for one day only next week.

The pub chain has said that pubs in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will slash prices as part of Tax Equality Day.

The day is aimed at highlighting the benefit of a permanent VAT reduction in the hospitality industry.

Prices will be dropped by 7.5 per cent on Thursday, September 24, the Mirror reports.

A pint of Ruddles will be reduced from £1.29 to £1.19, a pint of Abbot Ale from £1.99 to £1.84, and a refillable coffee will be reduced from £1.29 to £1.19.

Customers at Wetherspoons will be able to enjoy a beer and burger meal for £5.82 and a pizza and drink combo will be down to £5.08 instead of the usual £5.49 price.

In Scotland, however, the discount will only be applicable to food, soft drinks and hot drinks due to different licencing rules.

All food and drink in pubs, except for alcohol, has already been reduced to 5% VAT as a result of the VAT cut by the Chancellor in July and will last until January 12, 2021.

As it stands, this is when VAT will return to 20%.
