Wetherspoons to sell pints of real ale for just 99p ahead of England lockdown

Wetherspoons are serving pints of real ale for just 99p ahead of the England-wide lockdown.

The PM announced a second lockdown which will begin at 12.01am on Thursday 5 November, subject to Parliamentary approval, meaning all pubs, bars and restaurants will have to shut.

From this afternoon, drinkers have been enjoying the cheaper priced pints under the four day sale which will last until 10pm on Wednesday night.

Signs have reportedly been put up in Wetherspoons across the country saying they'd be cutting prices to get rid of stock.

The posters read: “Ahead of the four-week lockdown, rather than waste real ale, it has been reduced to 99p per pint.”

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told the Mirror Online: “ All of our pubs in England will be serving their real ales at 99p a pint until the pubs close on Wednesday night.

“The reality is that any real ales not sold between now and lockdown will have to be thrown away, so it is better that customers can enjoy it at a great price while the pubs remain open.

“Each and every one of our pubs has all Covid safety measures in place and the numbers of people allowed in our pubs is restricted, so the lower price for real ales will have no effect on the safety of customers and staff.”

A source told the Sun that strict safety measures will be in place for customers amid the deal.

Nick Nelson, 42, who was having lunch at the Crosse Keys in London told the Sun he'd be ordering a few pints today and wishes the prices would stay that low.

England's lockdown will end on Wednesday 2 December, when the government seek to ease the new restrictions on a local and regional basis, according to the latest data and trends at the time.

The lockdown will be subject to a debate and a vote in the House of Commons which is likely on Wednesday.
