Wetherspoons to close all Edinburgh pubs from Saturday due to level three restrictions

Wetherspoons are likely to close down all of their Edinburgh pubs from tomorrow night after hitting out at level three restrictions.

A statement released by the pub chain said that, "The Scottish pubs, in particular, are subject to an extremely onerous tier system which, as has been widely reported, is having a serious effect on trade."

46 of 61 pubs in Scotland will close as of 6pm today (Saturday) with an Irvine pub believed to be the only one in tier three remaining open, because it is said to still be attracting customers as it is located within a shopping centre.

Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon told our sister title Glasgow Live: “We can confirm that 46 of our 61 pubs in Scotland will close from 6pm Saturday and reopen when restrictions are eased and our pubs can trade more normally.

“The Auld Brigg will remain open as it is part of a shopping centre which is attracting people.

“We look forward to reopening our pubs in due course.”

It is likely that all seven Wetherspoons in Edinburgh will be affected because they are under tier three restrictions.
