Wetherspoons staff test positive for coronavirus - but pub stays open to customers

Three pub workers at one Wetherspoons pub have tested positive for coronavirus.

The North Wales establishment remains open after the employees were confirmed to be infected.

The positive cases were at the North and South Wales Bank, on High Street in Wrexham.

A number of other staff are now self isolating and Public Health Wales have been informed.

A spokesman said the pub remains open, reports North Wales Live.

Eddie Gershon, a spokesman for JD Wetherspoon, said: “We can confirm that three members of staff have tested positive at the North and South Wales Bank in Wrexham.

“As a result a number of other staff are self-isolating as a precaution.

“All of the required controls are in place. All of the positive cases have been reported to Public Health Wales.”

Earlier this month Wrexham featured in the top 10 list of highest infection rates in the UK.

The rates are calculated by the government based on the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in a place per 100,000 members of the public.

Wrexham was sixth on the list released on August 10, with 1,001 cases per 100,000 people.

“We have discussed our operating plan with Public Health Wales and they do not require us to take any further action at this time."
