Wetherspoons set to open up in Shawlands

Wetherspoons could soon be coming to Shawlands, with the pub chain having made a bid to open up another venue in the south side of the city.

And the move could bring a historic Glasgow building back to life, with Wetherspoons having submitted a planning application for 18 Moss Side Road, the home of the former Waverley Tea Rooms.

Limited details are known at this stage, however, planning documents for 'internal alterations to Category A Listed Building' for the address were submitted to Glasgow City Council, by J D Wetherspoon, on August 1.

Iconic bar and restaurant the Waverley Tea Room closed in September 2017, after serving southsiders since 2006.

At present, there are 10 different Wetherspoons venues across the city, including another in the South Side, the Sir John Stirling Maxwell on 140 Kilmarnock Road.

The planning application is currently with Glasgow City Council for consideration.

Meanwhile, as reported previously on Glasgow Live, moves are afoot for another new Wetherspoons to open up in Glasgow Central Station.

Wetherspoons have been contacted for comment.
