Wetherspoons say 'poo' smell is not coming from the toilets

Reports of a bad 'poo' smell at a South West pub had confounded customers and left them struggling to relax with their food and drinks.

Wetherspoons has been quick to be clear about precisely what caused the odour permeating through the Union Rooms in Plymouth

Punters assumed it came from the bathroom, with one saying the smell spread through the whole building.

Wetherspoons was keen to clarify that the smell is not from the bathrooms, reports PlymouthLive.

A Wetherspoons spokesperson has explained the smell (Matt Gilley/PlymouthLive)

The company said in a statement: “ "We can confirm that the unpleasant smell being experienced at The Union Rooms (Plymouth) has nothing to do with the toilets.

"It is believed to be being caused by an issue with condensation from the beer lines, reacting with the glue used on the flooring which is creating an odour.

"The pub management have a site meeting arranged, with a number of contractors, to resolve the issue as soon as possible."

The Wetherspoons in Union Street is a popular venue for local punters to grab a drink or a bit to eat, and fortunately the issue is being resolved.

The pub also has a beer garden, allowing customers to steer clear of any odours, no matter the cause.
