Wetherspoons reveal plans for new Shawlands venue

Wetherspoons have revealed plans for their potential new venue in Shawlands.

As reported yesterday, the pub and restaurant chain have submitted a planning application for 18 Moss Side Road in the south side of Glasgow, the home of the former Waverley Tea Rooms.

The premises has lain empty since the Waverley Tea Rooms ceased trading in September 2017.

Glasgow Live have since spoken to Wetherspoons to find out more information about their plans, which includes a proposal to re-open to the former Waverley Tearooms beer garden.

A spokesperson said: "We are now applying for planning permission and if successful will apply for a licence.

"Our aim is to develop a new pub on the site with a beer garden.

"We have enjoyed great success with our pubs in Glasgow and are keen to open more in the city.

"We believe that people will welcome investment in the area and also the opportunity to develop a disused building."

At this stage, it remains unclear as to when the new Wetherspoons will open, with planning documents currently under consideration by Glasgow City Council.

At present, there are 10 different Wetherspoons venues across the city, including another in the South Side, the Sir John Stirling Maxwell on 140 Kilmarnock Road.
