Wetherspoon's plan to re-open pubs "in or around June" as company claims it is ready to start trading within weeks

Pub giant Wetherspoon's has said its bars and hotels could start to re-open within weeks.

The company tonight said it was planning to pull pints again "in or around June".

It comes despite the country remaining on lockdown, with the Government yet to outline its exit plans.

The pub chain's boss, Tim Martin, has been highly critical of the lockdown measures, describing restrictions as "over the top".

He also suggested, in the early days of the outbreak, that there had "hardly been any transmission of the virus within pubs".

Pubs, bars and restaurants across the UK have been closed since March 20.
