Wetherspoons new reopening rules will see popular feature removed

Wetherspoons is preparing to reopen its doors to customers in England.

The pub chain closed in March due to the coronavirus crisis but is planning to reopen again in July in line with Government guidelines.

New rules and safety measures will be put in place, and under new guidelines, Wetherspoons pubs will not be showing football or sporting events in its pubs, reports Manchester Evening News.

The Government guidance reads: "All venues should ensure that steps are taken to avoid people needing to unduly raise their voices to each other.

"This includes, but is not limited to, refraining from playing music or broadcasts that may encourage shouting, including if played at a volume that makes normal conversation difficult.

"This is because of the potential for increased risk of transmission, particularly from aerosol transmission."

As a result, a statement from the pub reads: "As our pubs reopen, our focus will be on meeting social distancing requirements and keeping our customers and staff safe.

"For this reason and to avoid crowds congregating, no football or sporting events will be shown on our TVs during July."

The pub chain has also introduced several other rules, including asking customers to order and pay for food and drink via the Wetherspoon app, only allowing small groups inside and asking people to queue before entry when the maximum capacity has been reached.
