Wetherspoons new menu sees popular items axed - and more options for veggies

Wetherspoons is set to ditch four popular menu items when its pubs reopen.

But it's good news for vegetarians, with six new options including Quorn nuggets and a vegan burger.

The Sun has listed which items will be axed in the pub’s menu shakeup, and what dishes will take their place.

It comes as Wetherspoons confirmed 394 of its pubs are set to reopen to the public on April 12.

According to The Sun, Spoons has confirmed it is ditching its lamb shank dish, children’s hot dog, BBQ topped chips and sweet potato and chickpea curry as part of the pub’s revamp.

In their place will be a Carbonara pizza and meat-free options such as a new vegan burger and Quorn nuggets.

The vegan burger will be made with a Beyond Meat patty, with the Quorn nuggets being served as a ‘small plate’ or wrap.

Other items being added to the menu include a chicken and avocado burger, as well as a Mangalorean roasted cauliflower and spinach curry - which will take the place of its sweet potato and chickpea curry.

There will also be a vegan chocolate tart with dairy-free ice cream on offer, and a smaller version of the American breakfast.

The pub group has announced it will be opening beer gardens, rooftop gardens and patios at 394 of its pubs in England when lockdown restrictions continue to ease from April 12.

The pubs will be open from 9am to 9pm from Sunday to Thursday and 9am to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, although some will have restrictions on closing times.

They will offer a slightly reduced menu, with food available from 9am to 8pm seven days a week.

Customers will be able to order and pay through the Wetherspoon app, and staff will be able to take orders and payment at the table.

The pubs will not be operating a booking system.

Customers will be able to enter the pubs to gain access to the outside areas and use toilets, while test and trace will be in operation and hand sanitisers will be available.
