Wetherspoons' lunchtime diners shocked as car ploughs into pub

Dramatic pictures show the carnage caused after a car ploughed into a Wetherspoons pub today.

The smash happened at The Clairville pub in Liscard, Merseyside, at around 1pm.

The red Vauxhall Corsa also hit a lamppost and a silver car, Liverpool Echo says.

It then ploughed across a junction before smashing into the Wetherspoons, shocked witness said.

Fortunately, most pedestrians and diners eating at the tables near the window were unscathed.

Paramedics, police officers and the fire service dashed to the scene.

People in the area reported the driver of the car had been unwell.

"It is lucky there was no one walking by, someone could have been hit," one witness said.
