Wetherspoons launches its first ever fake-meat burger

Wetherspoons has announced that it's launching its first ever fake-meat burger.

The new vegan addition joins the rest of the brand's staple range of patties.

It will be available in all of the chain's 880 outlets, the Mirror report.

The news follows a successful six-month trial of the plant-based menu item earlier this year, in which it tested out the burger in 40 branches across the country.

Made by Leeds-based UK startup The Meatless Farm, the same company's meat-free mince, burgers and sausages are also available in several UK supermarkets right now, including Sainsbury’s, Morrisons , Booths and the Co-op.

Whilst there's no word on how much Spoons is selling theirs for, Morrisons is selling two-packs of the Meatless Farm burgers for £2.50 - the same price as packs of their meat-free mince.

Most Spoons branches have a standard range of 13 burger options on the menu - including a veggie burger for vegetarians - with customers also able to “personalise” their choice.

Wetherspoon’s head of catering, Jameson Robinson, said: “We are keen to offer vegetarian and vegan pub-goers an excellent choice of meals to enjoy at Wetherspoon. The plant-based burger is a great addition to the menu and we are confident that it will prove popular with vegetarians and vegans as well as those who eat meat.”

According to Robinson, the company also noted that it's seen a growing demand for vegetarian and vegan meals for young and older customers alike.
