Wetherspoons boss vows to slash beer prices - but only if we leave EU in October

The founder and chairman of Wetherspoons pubs, Tim Martin, has made a promise to slash the cost of beer in his 879 pubs across Britain to an "unbelievable low" after Brexit .

But there's just one thing that has to happen in order for him to put his money where his mouth is.

And that's that the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has to make sure the country leaves the European Union by October 31.

Speaking to the Sun.co.uk, Martin said: "If we leave the customs union on October 31, Wetherspoon will bring the price of beer to down to an unbelievable low.

"That’s a guarantee – but we have to leave properly, Boris Johnson. No messing around with customs union or any of that funny stuff."

The pub boss says that he'll be able to offer customers cheaper prices after Brexit as he can do cheaper deals with firms outside of the EU.

He explains: "We can get our supplies cheaper, everything we buy from outside the EU can be tariff free or mostly tariff free - which will also make our customers better off."

The 64-year-old adds that we need to embrace the idea of a No Deal Brexit, as if we don't leave by Halloween , he believes Britain will face years of "hell".

With just 70 days left to Brexit, talks appear deadlocked ahead of Mr Johnson's meetings with Trump and EU chief Donald Tusk at this weekend's EU summit.
