Wetherspoons announces 'January sale' with prices slashed at some Bristol pubs

Wetherspoon pubs across the country will be joining retail outlets in a January sale this year. In the Bristol area there are 12 pubs that will be slashing prices on selected alcoholic and soft drinks as well as a range of food items.

The budget chain pub has seen sales plummet in recent years with the business recently seeing a £30 million loss this year and £154.7 million in 2021 resulting in branch closures. Many pubs haven't seen the same footfall since before the pandemic - and with January traditionally being slowest month for the hospitality industry, the chain hopes the reduced prices will entice people back into the pubs.

Selected soft drinks will be on sale for 99p for the first few weeks of January, with the cheapest alcoholic pints starting from £1.29. Sam Thomas, manager of the Berkeley in Bristol, said: "Department stores and shops hold their sales in January, so it is the perfect time to have a sale in the pub too.

"The range of drinks and food on sale in the pub is aimed a suiting a wide variety of tastes. This year we have included our biggest selection of low and non-alcoholic drinks. I believe that the January sale will prove popular with our customers. As always, staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly."

The drinks featured in the sale include draught beers and ciders (Carlsberg, Bud Light, Guinness, Stowford Press Dark Berry Cider, Stowford Press Apple Cider, Ruddles Best and Worthington's), spirits (Bell's whisky, Gordon's gin, Duppy White rum, AU vodka, a range of soft drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. There will be some savings on food too, with offers on MOMA porridge, the breakfast muffin deal, the breakfast wrap deal, selected burger deals and small plates deals.

A selection of beef burger meals will cost £4.99 during the sale with a soft drink included. The chicken burgers and vegetarian burger meals are not included in the deal. MOMA porridge will cost £1.49, the breakfast muffin deal £2.49 and the breakfast wrap deal £2.99.

In addition, the pubs are serving a selection of small plates. The choice includes eight-inch pizzas, halloumi-style fries, chicken breast bites, bowl of chips, southern fried chicken strips, chicken wings, with any three for £12.

The 'sale' prices include a pint of Ruddles Best at £1.29, a pint of Bud Light at £1.89, a pint of Stowford Press Apple Cider at £1.89 and a Bell's whisky (25ml measure with mixer) at £1.29. Pepsi Max (14oz), Lavazza Coffee, tea and hot chocolate (with free refills) will all be on sale for 99p.

Prices across branches vary and the prices given are based on the sale prices for the majority of Bristol branches. A spokesperson for Wetherspoon has said that some of the pubs in Bristol may sell items at a higher price than those quoted.
