Wetherspoon's Dublin: Popular pub operator buys HQ Bar and Restaurant at Grand Central Square

JD Wetherspoon has confirmed that it has completed the purchase of a bar and restaurant in Dublin City Centre.

HQ Bar and Restaurant at Hanover Quay, Grand Central Square was bought from owner Fulminis Limited for an undisclosed sum.

The popular company has not decided whether to open the pub immediately or to redevelop the site, subject to planning permission.

Wetherspoon chairman, Tim Martin, said: “ We are delighted to have
purchased the HQ Bar and Restaurant and look forward to reopening it
as a Wetherspoon.

“It is an excellent property in a superb location and we are confident
that it will enjoy great success as a Wetherspoon pub.”

This comes after the pub operator opened The Silver Penny during the summer and is in the middle of developing a pub and 89 bedroom hotel in the city which is set to open in 2020.

The Silver Penny is on the site of a former bank and chapel on Lower Abbey Street and the company has spent €4 million developing it.

The company has four other pubs in Dublin: The Three Tun Tavern in Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock; The Forty Foot in The Pavilion Centre, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire; The Great Wood at Westend Shopping Park, Blanchardstown and The Old Borough in Main Street, Swords.
